Our rooms are perfectly equipped for internet but not with a telephone connection. Therefore, it is not possible to plug in a Swisscom, Salt, Sunrise or other box. Fortunately, there are other options to watch TV!
Watching TV takes has changed with the arrival of high-speed internet connections. With speeds allowing the smooth streaming of videos, many companies are specialized to the distribution of videos: Netflix, Youtube Premium, Disney, Facebook Watch and Prime Video, to name the most important.
Solution #1: use your family’s TV subscription
At the family’s house, everyone watches TV and connects to internet with a subscription to a national operator (Swisscom, Salt, Sunrise, UPC, Net, etc.). The most operators propose to watch TV with an application for computer, tablet or smartphone or on their website.
Solution #2: use an appropriated website
There are many websites for watching television. The best known are wilmaa.com, zattoo.com, molotov.tv, the list is long! Some also have developed an application for computer, tablet or smartphone. The principle is more or less the same on all these websites. The user starts by creating an account and once logged in he can choose the program. These services are not completely free. The free basic service frequently offers lower quality and commercial breaks are frequent. By choosing the fee-based service, you benefit of high-definition images, the possibility of recording videos and so on.
Solution #3: use a TV device or Smart TV
There are boxes to connect to a television to broadcast different programs. The offer depends on the chosen devices. The two main products on the market are Google Chromecast and Apple TV. Google Chromecast is the cheapest model. Directly connected to the TV, it is managed via a smartphone to transmit the chosen program. More expensive, Apple TV offers additional services like a connection of a file server (NAS), photo – slideshow etc. Smart TV’s are televisions equipped with an Internet-connected module that allows the operation of many online services.
How does it specifically work at Apartis
Apartis buildings are equipped with high-speed internet access. The tenants can connect to the Wi-Fi network with a personal access code. In our buildings, computer sockets have been installed (except at Campus residences). Everything is ready to enjoy television!
