You are new in a shared flat ? We hope you feel at home.
Life with roommates has the advantage to pay a low rent with all common rooms of an apartment (kitchen, WC, sometimes terrace or balcony). But life in a colocation is not limited to pay the rent to Apartis. You are not forced to share everything with your roommates – private life, time table, friends, study, sports and so on – but for a successful colocation it needs a minimum of communication and organization.
Here you find some basic rules for a good colocation:
- Regularly cleaning of the common rooms (make a cleaning plan which everybody has to keep)
- Garbage has to be disposed in accordance with the rules of the building
- Respect the private life of your roommates
- Create a good living together
- Communicate: to prevent problems and find solutions if problems appear
Some concrete tips:
- Don’t count on the other roommates to do jobs that you don’t like. Share the tasks. You will clean quickly if you clean together.
- Collect a fixed amount per month in a common box to pay common bills and shopping.
- Organize once a week a dinner together to speak about questions concerning the colocation.
- Ask for the approval of your roommates before inviting friends for a dinner and notice it on your colocation-calendar (hanging in the kitchen for example) and so on….
After your arrival in the colocation take information’s how the colocation is organized to know the above mentioned points. Something is missing or do you want to contribute some ideas ? Share your ideas with the other roommates. It is not because you are the new one that you have not the right to propose or change things. A colocation develops with the different roommates.
To not disturb the neighbors and to avoid a wrecked apartment we recommend to use our multipurpose rooms. We have some in our building in Givisiez and in Marly. They are suitable for max. 30 persons. We will ask a guarantee of CHF 200.- at the Apartis office when you reserve the room and sign the rules.
